The seed for this Cleaning Service was planted years ago, at an impressionable time of life when I was very young. In German “Zauber” means “Magic”and “Sauber” means “Clean”. My dear mother, who was German, moved to America with my American father when she was in her early twenties, right before I was born. She was still learning English when I was very young. Her German upbringing, a fastidious nature and domesticity, rubbed off on me. I was scrubbing floors and baseboards on hands and knees and cleaning everything in sight by the age of seven. So as we polished woodwork and furniture together, she polished her English skills by teaching me German phrases.

In my twenties, with a child of my own, I had the opportunity to live in Switzerland for several years. We lived in the German speaking part. I wanted to supplement the family income, while my son attended Kindergarten. I took on an independent cleaning position, cleaning residences in between tenants. After one tenant moved out I would make it ready for the next. The Swiss have an extremely high standard of suitability and QA concerning sanitary readiness of a living space before the arrival of a new tenant. A state inspection is done! Doing this job was how I really became an expert cleaner. I learned to perceive the nuances and the detailed requirements needed to pass anyone’s test.

My subsequent love of both the German language and cleaning engendered the name of the company, Zauber Sauber.
